After reading Carol’s comment I too went there and had a cappucino with a pastry. The coffee is as good as it gets. Buon Italia is so interesting because of all the people you meet who take their food/cooking/catering/ food writing etc very seriously. Everything there seems to be pure quality. And the selection is endless .
No surprise Claudia that it’s a favorite of yours when in nyc.

What was the shipping from Buon Italia? Was it quite high? I love that place too and always go when I’m in New York, if only for a cappucino. I’ve never thought to put together a box and ship. next time I definitely will do that.

The salad looks perfect. But totally PERFECT! So pretty and I’m quite sure it was delicious, no?

You may have to start baking your own bread. Just kidding. Try some Grandad’s gravy balsamic at Granny white market. At only $11, it tastes much more expensive, is syrupy. I’m off to make salad…you made me hungry.

Once again, excellent ingredients means you don’t have to do too much to them and it makes all the difference. The farro/bean spread is certainly an interesting item! Never have seen that before. . .

ummmmmmmmmmm. Salad!

I really need to be eating lots more of those (especially after the nice lady at the VA said, “WTF are you eating? Grilled cheese sammies with drawn butter and hollandaise?–yikes!”) . But good local produce is an oxymoron around here except for the period between June and September.

I did get some decent cod yesterday at the market and when I told the young lady who wrapped it for me that I was going to simmer it in chili, her eyes lit up. This could be love.

Please write me really long letter, Claudia, on butter lettuce and put it in a baggie!

I don’t blame you for buying the jar of the pricey stuff. Maybe plain, you-must-cook-it farro is readily available in the city, but here in the ‘burbs (and don’t dare call it “upstate”) it’s not easy to come by. I’d buy a jar just to have it.

I’ve been really disappointed with the farmer’s markets so far this spring. I’m envious of your bounty!
