heck, the avocado leaf is the easy part…there’s a 30′ tree in my front yard (excellent avocados in about 6 months…if i can beat the squirrels to them)…but down here in the culinary desert that is west central florida you try finding oaxacan oregano or any of the chiles listed…the peak of fine dining around here is “the mouse” (aka disneyworld for you non-floridians)…count yourself lucky you live in nashville

Sure am glad I didn’t throw out that jar in the fridge that says “mole” on it. It’s really special. When it’s empty you can wash it out and use it for juice.

jim – i didn’t buy the spices/leaves at world spice. i got mine from a source that was going out of business – caught them on the tail end – got a great discount. but for the record i buy my spices from penzy’s – a great online source with an excellent reputation.

the real cinnamon is just wonderful. heady and rich… but for the mole i used cassia.

leaves are going out soon! and thanks so much to all who participated. it’s been fun!

BTW, I am amazed that worldspice.com has real cinnamon, since it’s so rare, and it’s only twice as expensive as cassia. Have you tried it? How different is it? Inquiring minds…..

But I would have completely expected you to have a link to a spice company like that.

Well, first I’m thinking if I’d won, that would be so totally great. But the reality is what the fuck would I do with all that stuff since she said it would take someone experienced six frigging hours so that’s so not happening, not to mention that there’s still a boatload of other ingredients to fetch, and if I bought avocado leaves to get one and still had four damn cups of them left, what would I do with them anyway.

So I’ll just sit here basking in the comfort knowing that my losing a contest with only fifty-five people in it in no way reflects on whether I’m winning the powerball with 400 million contestants. Right? But I am getting that leaf.
